How many credits is level 5?
To achieve a qualification you must gain enough credits at that academic level to pass. For example to gain an undergraduate (Bachelor's) degree you would need to successfully complete 120 credits at level 4, 120 credits at level 5 and 120 credits at Level 6.
Oftentimes, in the U.S., colleges will count credits as the number of hours spent in class. For example, a 3-credit class may mean 3 hours of class or lecture time, and a 5-credit course may equal one hour of class each day of the week for 5 total hours.
Taking 12-15 credits is considered “full-time” in college lingo. That amounts to 4-5 classes, and for young students, that course load is really heavy (let's be honest, it's heavy for MOST students of any age).
Because our Level 7 modules do not run as frequently as some courses, we strongly recommend you only purchase a Level 7 (30 credits) Learning Licence once you have seen a suitable date for this course available for your learner. Need to know more about Learning Licences?
Level 5 qualifications are: diploma of higher education ( DipHE ) foundation degree. higher national diploma ( HND )
To gain a certificate of higher education you will need to complete 120 credits of Level 1 study.
Each credit hour corresponds to a minimum of 3 hours of student engagement per week for a traditional 14-week course or 6 hours per week for a 7-week course. This time may be spent on discussions, readings and lectures, study and research, and assignments.
Again, at most colleges that means 15 credits or five classes, but it will depend on your school.
While it might seem strange, for many students it's better to take about 15 credits in their first semester. This is recommended because 12 credits are usually the minimum to be considered a full-time student at the college. It can even affect tuition in some cases.
Associate degrees are usually 60 credits or around 20 courses. This degree usually takes two years to complete.
How many years is 36 credits?
Two years. Taking 18 hours, or 6 classes per semester can be done, but takes a huge effort and no lack of brainpower. It would still take roughly two years.
Though many people do take 18 credits in a semester, it is your individual experience and no one else's. An 18-credit semester may be worth losing some sleep over — but it's not worth losing your sanity. Pay attention to warning signs that you're doing too much and stop yourself short before it worsens.

Level 5 graduates who wish to pursue further education usually look to a Level 6 qualification. As with Level 5, there are several to choose for. There's the Level 6 award, Level 6 certificate, Level 6 diploma and the Level 6 NVQ.
Level 3. The Level 3 Course is a 120 credit course, which is equivalent to 2 A levels. The course is made up of 6 modules and 6 written assignments.
3) A student studying a Level 6 Diploma (120 credits) will study a course equivalent to year 3 of Undergraduate Degree standard and is also a qualification which can be used for entry on to a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's Degree programme.
Higher National Diploma (HND) – Level 5
A HND takes two years to complete if studying full-time and is equivalent to the second year of university. It is also a work-related course.
Level 5: 60 - 69% (Substantial achievement) Level 4: 50 - 59% (Moderate achievement) Level 3: 40 - 49% (Adequate achievement) Level 2: 30 - 39% (Elementary achievement) Level 1: 0 - 29% (Not achieved - Fail)
Level 5: 60 – 69% (Substantial achievement)
Progression A Bachelor's Degree is the minimum entry requirement for admission to a Bachelor Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma. A Level 8 Bachelor's Degree with 480 credits may also meet the minimum requirement for admission to a cognate Master's Degree.
Masters degree
Earn 180 credits at SCQF Level 11 (typically including a 60-credit project or dissertation).
What qualification is 240 credits?
What is a DipHE worth? A Diploma of Higher Education is typically worth 240 UCAS Tariff Points, with 120 of those points earned at Level 7, and at least 80 from Level 8.
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training – 120 credits.
Again, at most colleges that means 15 credits or five classes, but it will depend on your school.
Most learners take between 9-12 months to complete the qualification. There are no official deadlines with the course and you can take as long as required.
Level 5: Foundation degree. This is a vocational qualification equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor's degree.
New NQF level | Vocational | Professional |
---|---|---|
7 | Advanced diploma | Bachelor degree Advanced diploma |
7 | Postgraduate certificate (120 credits and 132 credits) | Postgraduate Certificate in Education |
6 | Diploma (240 credits and 360 credits) | Diploma (360 credits) |
6 | Advanced certificate (120 credits) |
While it might seem strange, for many students it's better to take about 15 credits in their first semester. This is recommended because 12 credits are usually the minimum to be considered a full-time student at the college. It can even affect tuition in some cases.
Credits to be earned | Hours per week, 7-week course | Hours per week, 14-week course |
---|---|---|
1 credit | 6 hours | 3 hours |
3 credits | 18 hours | 9 hours |
6 credits | 36 hours | 18 hours |
12 credits | 72 hours | 36 hours |
3) A student studying a Level 6 Diploma (120 credits) will study a course equivalent to year 3 of Undergraduate Degree standard and is also a qualification which can be used for entry on to a Postgraduate Diploma or Master's Degree programme.
How many credits is an associate degree? Associate degree programs commonly require 60 credits—half of the credits required of a bachelor's degree program—however, some associate degree programs require over 80 credits. Generally, it takes about two years to earn an associate degree on a full-time schedule.
How many years is 90 credits?
A two-year program equals approximately 90 credits; a four-year baccalaureate equals approximately 180 credits.
Each level 5 and level 6 component is scored: 3.25 for a Distinction. 2.16 for a Merit. 1.08 for a Pass.
The Level 5 Certificate enables learners to develop a wide range of skills, which are vocationally specific and require a general theoretical understanding. With this award, learners are enabled to work independently while subject to general direction.
